Dr. Jennifer Walden Balances Having a Career with Having a Family

Jennifer Walden is a board-certified plastic surgeon and founded the Jennifer L. Walden, M.D., PLLC and Walden Cosmetic Surgery Center, PLLC located in Austin, Texas, with a satellite office located in Marble Falls, Texas. She is a published co-author of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery textbook with her mentor, Dr. Sherrell Aston.

Named one of the 24 best beauty surgeons in the country by Harper’s Bazaar in 2014, Dr. Walden has made numerous television appearances as a medical expert. She is one of the only women elected American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Board of Directors, where she is also the Vice Commissioner of Communications. She is also the media spokesperson with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, her father was a dentist and her mother was a surgical nurse. She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Texas and was accepted to medical school, where she graduated second in her class. Dr. Walden chose to go into plastic surgery and completed her residency at University of Texas, Galveston.

Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Walden was accepted into a very exclusive post-residency aesthetic surgery fellowship at Manhattan Ear, Nose, & Throat Hospital. Choosing to stay in Manhattan, she began a practice in association with Dr. Aston which flourished for eight years until she left in 2011 when her twin sons were born.

Wanting to raise her sons around family, Dr. Walden moved to Austin and opened her practice at the Westlake Medical Center. She attributes her success to her goal-oriented, proactive attitude and having help with her children. Female pre-med students have asked her for advice, and she tells them it’s a demanding life, and that success “is a marathon, not a sprint.” Having it all means not doing it alone, and women need help when they have a career and children, whether that means hiring a nanny or having family help. Dr. Walden considers herself fortunate to have family around her for love and support.
