Shafik Sachedina has a very important role in the department of Jamati Institutions. He also has a place in the Ismaili Institutions. He coordinates how the institution should work. It does not mean that these institutions are accountable to Shafik. They all answer to the Imam. Shafik’s work of coordination is vital because the Ismaili institution has sixteen principle areas where they exist.
Apart from the UK, Shafik also has to be the liaison to the Aga Khan Development Network programs in Central Asia. Shafik has always done an impressive job. He has received recognition and the attention of important people such as Mikhail Bogdanov. He is the deputy foreign minister for Middle East and Africa. Shafik is impressed by Mikhail’s uncompromising fight against terrorism and extremism.
The institute of Ismaili is a research entity in London. It is a supporter of the Muslim culture and intends to promote its study. The study encompasses both past and present aspects of culture. Studying past and present will increase understanding of how they relate with other societies. The study also reflects the relationship of Islam and other faiths. Learning demystifies areas of misconceptions and brings a clear picture of how things are.
Shafik Sachedina was born in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania. He was born in 1950 but he did not live there for so long before moving to London. Shafik attained his degree as a dental surgeon in 1975. He pursued it at Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School. Since then, Shafik has practiced in many hospitals and he is good at his work. Besides being a doctor, Shafik has an entrepreneurial spirit. Since Shafik’s knowledge is in the medical field. He decided to do business in the heath sector, he co-founded Sussex Healthcare.
Working with Aga Khan and Jamati Institutions is out of volition. The community has always had a tradition of voluntary service. Shafik was not going to be of exception. Therefore, he took up his responsibilities, which he has been accomplishing diligently. Shafik is a hard worker because he still other responsibilities. He is the chairman of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance. Shafik is also a member of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum.
All these positions he has held as voluntary service. Shafik Sachedina is a man who believes in not just doing business but also giving service. He is keen to serve his community in many areas in a voluntary position. He hopes that people following behind will also uphold this culture of serving their community without expecting anything in return.
